Doctoral Symposium


A Doctoral Symposium will take place on Saturday June 28th as an affiliated event Petri Nets 2014 and ACSD 2014 that will take place in Tunis from June 23 to 27.

The Symposium aims at providing PhD students in Computer Science and related disciplines with an opportunity for presenting their research directions and for receiving feedback on their work from experienced researchers that attend Petri Nets and ACSD 2014. It also aims to establish a research and social network of their peers from around the world.

This Doctoral Symposium is supported jointly by main Maghrebian Computer Science and Engineering Laboratories, the Euro-Maghrebian Research Network VECoS, the Paris Group Mefosyloma and The Mediterranean Institute for the Mathematical Sciences (MIMS).

Topics and Submission Instructions:
The Symposium is open to all PhD Students that are categorized as follows:
  • Early-stage, students at the beginning of their work that have defined their problem statement and a clear research plan;
  • Intermediate-stage, students in the middle of their PhD course, having defined their problem statement, a research plan, and have collected some results;
  • Advanced-stage, students who are in the last period of their PhD course but with sufficient time prior to completing their dissertation to benefit from the consortium experience.
PhD Students should make the best attempt for addressing the following issues:
  • The technical problem to be solved with a justification of its importance
  • An account of related and prior works that explains why these works have not solved the problem
  • The specific research problem or question that the thesis will address
  • A sketch of the proposed approach or solution
  • The expected contributions of the dissertation research
  • Progress in solving the stated problem
  • The methods used or will be used to carry out the research
  • A plan for evaluating the work and presenting credible evidence of the results to the research community
Submissions are expected especially in the general field of distributed and concurrent systems. The symposium is open also to submissions in different areas.

The proposals (up to 8 pages) must be written in English and include title, authors' addresses, E-mail addresses, keywords and an abstract. They should be submitted in electronic form (PDF) using the Springer LNCS- format

Review and Evaluation Criteria
The Doctoral Symposium Committee will select participants using the following four criteria:
  • The potential quality of the research proposal
  • The stage of the research
  • Diversity of background, research topics and approaches
Accepted contributions will be included in the workshop proceedings, which will be published online at CEUR-WS.org

Symposium Venue:
The symposium will be held on Saturday 28th June 2014 in Tunis Science City.
Students whose submissions are accepted in the Doctoral Symposium will be able to participate to all events of Petri Nets and ACSD 2014 Week (23-28 June).
